The establishment of SAP’s Mission Control Centre (MCC) in Melbourne will precipitate a global recruitment drive for the business software firm as it looks to ramp up its ability to deliver services worldwide.

The MCC has been designed to coordinate SAP’s efforts in providing services to businesses all across the Asia-Pacific region as well as its growing list of major clients in Australia itself. Although SAP boasts over 65,000 employees worldwide, the large number of ambitious forthcoming projects and partnerships means that the company plans to add hundreds of new staff to its roster in the coming months.

Technology Minister Gordon Rich-Phillips said in a recent interview: “The Melbourne Mission Control Centre will coordinate large-scale software rollouts and SAP India will provide software research and development. This partnership is a good example of Victoria and India working together by leveraging India’s software development capability and Victoria’s project management and delivery expertise.”
He added that over 100 additional jobs will be created to meet SAP’s growing Australian customer base. The Minister said that partnerships between governments and businesses like SAP were vital to secure the growth of job opportunities worldwide.

The Minister’s sentiments are echoed by the words of Richard Bruton, the EU’s Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation. Along with several major technology companies such as Microsoft, HP and Cisco Systems, SAP recently pledged their support towards filling the startling number of vacancies in ICT sectors across the UK and continental Europe. Bruton said:

“Even during the economic crisis, the numbers employed in ICT have been growing by 3pc annually, In spite of this, strong demand will continue and, according to the latest revised data, there is expected to be up to 900,000 unfilled vacancies in the EU for ICT professionals by 2015.”

SAP’s support involves offering more positions, training and internship opportunities in the UK than ever before. Companies such as The SAP Job Board are experiencing a significantly higher proportion of SAP job placements being advertised with UK businesses as a result.

With an expanding order book and so many recent project wins, SAP is now ideally placed to expand its global workforce and provide its staff with increased opportunities to relocate to its up-and-coming market areas such as south-east Asia. With such a secure outlook, it shouldn’t be long before we hear more about some of the more ambitious projects that SAP claims to have in the pipeline.
